Drivers heading into downtown Fresno may have to take a detour starting Monday as preparations begin on the demolition of the Tuolumne Street bridge. The one-way bridge, which carries eastbound traffic across the Union Pacific Railroad freight tracks in downtown Fresno, is being leveled to make way for California's high-speed train project.

A gas leak at the old Fresno corporation yard in Roeding Park led to evacuation of guests and staff from Fresno Chaffee Zoo for about three hours Wednesday. Barton said the zoo reopened about 1:25 p.m. and veterinarians were set to check the animals closest to the corporation yard, which is north of the reptile area.

A heavy front-end loader rips up part of the Selland Arena parking lot at Fresno and O streets during the first round of work on the new site of Cosmopolitan, which is being moving from its longtime site at Fresno and G streets as part of the high-speed rail work.
