(Telecompaper) Apple has unveiled iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones offering a precision unibody enclosure of anodized aluminium that conforms to the shape of the glass of the display, resulting in a smooth and continuous surface. iPhone 6 offers a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 1334 x 750 resolution, providing 38 percent more viewing area than iPhone 5s. iPhone 6 Plus offers a larger 5.5-inch Retina HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, providing 88 percent more viewing area and nearly three times the pixels than iPhone 5s. iPhone 6 comes in gold, silver or space gray, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of USD 199 for the 16GB model, USD 299 for the 64GB model and, for the first time, a new 128GB model for USD 399, with a two-year agreement. iPhone 6 Plus comes in gold, silver or space gray, and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of USD 299 for the 16GB model, USD 399 for the 64GB model and USD 499 for the 128GB model with a two-year agreement. Both models will be available from the Apple Online Store, Apple's retail stores, and through AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, additional carriers and select Apple Authorised resellers. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK beginning on 12 September.

Motorola launches smartwatch, updates smartphones

(Telecompaper) Motorola has unveiled its smartwatch the Moto 360, as well as new accessories and updates to its smartphones. The Moto 360 is powered by Google's Android Wear software and allows users to check messages and notifications from their phone and track their daily activities, syncing with any phone running Android 4.3 or higher. It comes with voice recognition and wireless charging, with a stainless steel circular display and leather strap. The Moto 360 is already available in black or grey leather in the US for USD 249.99 through Best Buy and online. It will launch in two metal options later this fall for USD 299.9. Motorola also announced the Moto Hint, a wireless earbud that uses voice recognition to access information from a Moto X smartphone. To help extend the battery of its phone, Motorola introduced the Power Pack Micro, portable battery that also includes the Motorola Keylink technology to help locate the phone or keys. Motorola also announced an updated version of the Moto X smartphone, with a bigger full HD screen at 5.2 inches and upgraded processor, camera and battery. It will be available starting later this month. The updated Moto G also gets a better camera, stereo speakers and 5-inch HD screen. It is available already in the US, India, France, UK, Brazil, Spain and Germany.

Microsoft adds 3 new Lumia smartphones

(Telecompaper) Microsoft announced three new Lumia smartphones as well as a software update for the Lumia range. Its new affordable flagship device is the Lumia 830, which features a 5-inch screen, Snapdragon 400 processor, 16GB storage, 10-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation system as well as wireless charging. With a polycarbonate and aluminimum body offered in a choice of four colours, the phone runs Windows Phone 8.1 with the new Lumia Denima update. The Lumia 830 will begin rolling out globally this month, priced at around EUR 330. For the mid-range market, Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 730 Dual SIM and Lumia 735 with wide-angle, 5-megapixel front cameras. In addition to selfies, the front cameras will be marketed as perfect for Skype video calls, and the phones will come with a free three-month subscription to Skype Unlimited World. The phones also come with 2,200 mAh batteries, 4.7-inch HD screen, 1.2 GHz Snapdragon quad-core processor and 8 GB internal storage The Lumia 730 and 735 will also begin rolling out globally this month, for respectively EUR 199 and EUR 219. The Lumia 735 includes 4G and wireless charging support. The Lumia Denim software update combines the latest Windows Phone 8.1 update with new enhancements exclusive to Lumia smartphones. This will include the Lumia Camera, which adds features such as faster shots, Moment Capture to record in 4K and save each image of a video, Rich Capture with auto HDR and Dynamic Flash and new imaging algorithms for low-light shots.
