Dutch mobile service revenues fall 6.7% in Q2

2013-08-20 08:21:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Dutch mobile service revenues contracted 6.7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2013 to a total EUR 1.38 billion. According to Telecompaper's quarterly mobile monitor, the annual rate of decline is more than twice that of the same period last year, as a drop in non-voice revenue (SMS and data) added to the continued fall in voice revenues. Seasonally the second quarter is stronger than the first, but this year's quarterly growth of 0.6 percent was a third of last year's rate, with revenues increasing by only EUR 8 million. Non-voice services now contribute 40 percent of total mobile service revenue, but these are not growing fast enough to offset fully the erosion in voice revenues. The weak market performance in the first half of 2013 has led to a downgrade in Telecompaper's outlook for the Dutch mobile industry. For 2013 we now expect the Dutch market to show a decline of around 6 percent to EUR 5.5 billion in service revenue over the full year. For the period 2013-2017, the Dutch market is expected to show a negative CAGR of 2.5 percent, reaching around EUR 5.1 billion in revenues in 2017.

Tablet penetration increases to over 40% of Dutch households

2013-08-19 13:27:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) More than four in ten Dutch households had a tablet in the second quarter of 2013, up from a third six months earlier. According to the latest research from Telecompaper, this means around 3 million Dutch households now have a tablet. The survey of around 6,6000 consumers aged 12-80 also found that 19 percent of all consumers without a tablet said they would buy a tablet in the next six months. Of the 17 percent who said half a year ago that they would buy a tablet in the next six months, 9 percent actually bought one. Apple's iPad is the still the most popular tablet in the Dutch market, but Samsung is gaining market share fast. Consumers who own an Apple, Samsung or Microsoft tablet more often chose the device based on the brand, while Yarvik and Samsung users said they based their purchase more often on the price. When it comes to using the tablets, the most popular activities are surfing the internet and gaming. On average, tablets are used over nine and a half hours per week. Tablet owners are more often male and have a gross family income higher than non-tablet users.
