The Long Island Rail Road on Thursday said it had restored service in both directions on its Port Washington branch after a brief outage caused by a train striking and killing a person on the tracks. The death occurred at the Flushing Main Street station, forcing the railroad to shut the line at 5:02 p.m., said Meredith Daniels, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

New Jersey Transit says the Dinky train service in Princeton has been restored, one day after it was suspended due to mechanical problems. The two-train service was suspended after the mechanical problems were discovered around 6:30 a.m. Friday.
