Motorola is taking orders for its $1,499 Razr foldable smartphone, and units are expected to start shipping on Feb. 6. Motorola made its mark on the mobile handset business with the original Razr, introduced in 2004, which ushered in the era of flip phones. The new Razr is a flip phone, too. The 6.2-inch OLED screen folds in half to create a compact package that fits in a shirt pocket.

The device also comes with an improved camera and battery life, in-display fingerprint reader and bigger screen. It will launch first in the US, for USD 500.

Motorola launches wide-screen One Vision smartphone

(Telecompaper) Motorola has presented its new Moto One Vision smartphone, which comes with a large 6.3-inch screen with 21:9, cinema-like aspect ratio. The phone priced at EUR 300 launches first in Brazil and Mexico and will roll out in the rest of Latin America and Europe this month, before launching in selected other countries in Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

Lenovo lifts revenues, profits in Q3, boosted by first profit at Motorola

(Telecompaper) Lenovo said revenues for its fiscal third quarter to end December reached their highest level in four quarters, boosted by a higher pre-tax profit at Mobile Business Group (MBG), its first time since the acquisition of Motorola, and a strong performance at all major business groups. Revenues for the group lifted 8 percent from the year before to USD 14.035 billion. The operating profit meanwhile leaped 112 percent to USD 434 million, while the pre-tax profit more than doubled to USD 350 million from 150 million and the net result strengthened to a gain of USD 233 million from a loss of 289 million. Diluted earnings per share went to 1.92 cents, from a loss of 2.53 cents.
