The family of the late Akai Gurley today tore into NYPD Officer Peter Liang, who fatally shot the unarmed 28-year-old black man in the stairwell of his Brooklyn building last year, and called for comprehensive changes to the police department. After Mr. Liang's arraignment , Kimberly Ballinger-Gurley's domestic partner and mother to his child-and her attorney Scott Rynecki held a press conference outside Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson's office.

Craft brewers lobby lawmakers as beer battle rages

Lobbyists for the craft brewing industry invited lawmakers Thursday to enjoy craft beer while they pushed for legislation that would force Anheuser-Busch to sell its Kentucky facilities. The event, held at the Frankfort lobbying firm Top Shelf Lobby, featured several brands of beer.

Kenneth Thompson, the Brooklyn district attorney, blasted a request to appoint a special prosecutor in Eric Garner-like cases as "unworkable," continuing his unusually outspoken defense of district attorneys and how they handle police brutality cases. "If you can't trust me and my 61 other colleagues in the state to handle police brutality cases, then take them all from us," Mr. Thompson told radio host Brian Lehrer on WNYC this morning.
