Apple launches own studio for streaming service, starting with follow up to 'Band of Brothers'

(Telecompaper) Apple has launched its own internal studio, headed by Apple Worldwide Video chiefs Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, Hollywood Reporter reported. The studio, still unnamed, will make content specifically for Apple, starting with "Masters of the Air", a follow up to the World War II series by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The first two dramas in the series were from HBO: "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific." The new series will see the return of Spielberg and Hanks as executive producers.

Telekom Albania receives licence for 800 MHz band

(Telecompaper) Telekom Albania has received the licence to use the 800 MHz frequency band from regulator AKEP. This will enable the operator to improve its network and expand capacity. Subscribers will benefit from more robust networking, faster internet speeds, 4G and 4G plus internet coverage in remote areas, and smooth browsing even inside buildings.

France announces first eleven projects for 5G trials in 26 GHz band

(Telecompaper) The award of 5G trial spectrum in the 26 GHz band, unveiled by French regulator Arcep in January, has led to the green light for the first eleven initiatives put forward by industry players. The government and Arcep had invited applications for projects that would create 5G pilot platforms open to third parties, with the aim to encourage involvement in the trials from companies outside the telecom sector.
FCC votes to open up 2.5 GHz band for 5G services

(Telecompaper) The US Federal Communications Commission has voted 3-2 to open up spectrum in the 2.5 GHz band for 5G use and finalised procedures for the forthcoming December auction of spectrum in the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands. In a statement, the FCC said much of the 2.5 GHz band spectrum (2496-2690 MHz) has been underutilised for many years, having been reserved in the 1960s for the so-called Educational Broadband Service.
