FCC approves 5.9 GHz band for Wi-Fi, C-V2X services

(Telecompaper) The FCC has approved plans to open up the 5.9 GHz band for unlicensed Wi-Fi use, as well as reserve part of the 5 GHz spectrum for road communications. The new band plan designates the lower 45 MHz (5.850-5.895 GHz) for unlicensed uses and the upper 30 MHz (5.895-5.925 GHz) for Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) communications.
Vodafone Egypt acquires 40 MHz spectrum in 2.6 GHz band for USD 540 mln

(Telecompaper) Vodafone Egypt has acquired 40 MHz of 2.6 GHz TDD spectrum from the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), with a ten-year licence term through to 2030. Payments will be phased over three years, with an initial payment of USD 270 million upon receipt of the spectrum and two other payments of USD 135 million due in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

At the start of the year, many were already beginning to call 2020 the long-awaited ‘Year of 5G’. Operators were just starting to tentatively roll out the new technology, expecting it to have a huge impact on everything from how we consume mobile data to the future of industry itself. Verizon, Dish, cable operators lead spending on 3.5 GHz licences

(Telecompaper) The FCC has released the names of the winners of the recent 3.5 GHz band auction. The biggest mobile operator, Verizon spent the most at USD 1.89 billion in total, followed by newcomer Dish Network spending USD 913 million on almost 5,500 of the local spectrum licences. They are expected to use the frequencies to boost capacity on 5G networks.
