Belgium plans preliminary licences for 3.5 GHz band to avoid further 5G delay

(Telecompaper) Belgian regulator BIPT has proposed a solution to the impasse over spectrum licences in the country. The existing 2G and 3G licences expiring next year would be extended for six months, and the regulator will issue preliminary licences for the 3.5 GHz band, without an auction, to allow operators to start launching 5G services.

US raises USD 7.6 billion in auction of 37, 39, 47 GHz bands for 5G

(Telecompaper) The US FCC announced it's completed the auction of the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, which started on 10 December 2019. The auction of 5G spectrum attracted total bids of USD 7.56 billion, and bidders won 99.9 percent of the licences on offer.

Hong Kong announces 3.3-3.4 GHz spectrum auction winners

(Telecompaper)  Hutchison Telephone won the C1 C3 blocks in the 3300 3330 MHz frequency band; Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT) secured the C4 C6 blocks in the 3330 3360 MHz frequency band; while SmarTone won the C7 C8 blocks in the 3360 - 3380 MHz frequency band; and China Mobile Hong Kong secured the C9 C10 blocks in the 3380 3400 MHz frequency band. OFCA also reports it will grant a licence to each Successful Bidder for the relevant frequency block.

FCC starts auction of 37, 39 GHz band spectrum for 5G services

(Telecompaper) The US Federal Communications Commission has kicked off a new auction of mmWave spectrum for 5G services. Bidding began 10 December on spectrum in the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, with a total of 3,400 MHz available for purchase.

Hong Kong grants 5G spectrum licenses in 3.5 GHz band

(Telecompaper) Hong Kong's Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) has announced that a total of 200 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band was successfully auctioned off to four mobile network operators. The total spectrum utilization fees (SUFs) amount to HKD 1.006 billion. China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK), Hong Kong Telecommunications (HKT), Hutchison Telephone Company Limited (HTCL) and SmarTone Mobile Communications took part in the 3.5 GHz band auction.
