Appeals court rules against the city in Covanta recycling center case

The Court of Appeals for Indiana has sided with two companies and an Indianapolis resident who challenged the city's deal with Covanta to build a recycling center in the city. Judge John Baker disagreed with the lower court's ruling and determined paper manufacturers with RockTenn , Graphic Packaging Corp., and resident Cathy Weinmann do in fact have standing to bring the issue to the court.

A Wisconsin appeals court reinstated portions of a woman's lawsuit Tuesday that alleges asbestos exposure at two of Milwaukee's signature brewing companies played a role in her steamfitter husband's death. Sandra Brezonick 's lawsuit alleges her husband, John Brezonick , contracted mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos at a number of Milwaukee-area industrial sites between 1996 and 2000.

A federal appeals court on Monday upheld a decision rejecting claims of fraud by Harbinger Capital Partners, the equity owner of bankrupt wireless venture LightSquared, against Deere & Co and other GPS firms. Hedge fund Harbinger had accused Deere, Garmin International, Trimble Navigation Ltd, and a GPS industry group of misleading LightSquared about interference concerns and hastening the wireless spectrum's plunge into bankruptcy.
