Linn Energy Slashes Dividend, Capital Spending

Linn Energy LLC said Friday that it will cut its payouts to shareholders by more than half as the oil and natural-gas producer slashes capital spending to weather lower oil prices. The move marks the first time Linn has cut its dividend-like payments since going public in 2006, and comes after its stock fell 69% over the last six months of 2014.

Precision Drilling Corp. says its 2014 capital spending plan has been reduced by another $23 million to $885 million while its capital spending plan for 2015 will be substantially lower than this year at $493 million - as it gears down plans for building new rigs until commodity prices improve. It's the second reduction in the Calgary-based company's 2014 capital spending plan in a matter of weeks, but still well above the $515 million capital plan outlined in February.

Suncor Energy plans capital spending of between $7.2 billion and $7.8 billion in 2015, with the Calgary-based integrated oil giant saying average production is expected to be between 540,000 to 585,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. "Our production guidance for next year reflects a continued trend of improved reliability and steady growth," president and CEO Steve Williams said in a statement released Tuesday after markets closed.
