Monmouth County, Middletown Township and NY Waterways officials are working together to lessen the possible inconvenience to commuters in the event of a New Jersey Transit strike starting Sunday morning. "The County is working with NY Waterway and Middletown to take a proactive approach to the situation we may face next week if there is any disruption to how our residents travel to work," said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone.

N.J. Transit 'Harassing, Retaliating' Against Workers, Union Says

The Coalition of Unions representing more than 4,000 workers for New Jersey Transit says the transportation organization is harassing the employees in the middle of a negotiation for a new contract. In a statement released by the union Thursday afternoon, it was announced New Jersey Transit Vice President and General Manager R.M. Lavell issued a notice to all employees stating that in the event of a strike all existing positions will be suspended; all employees on sick leave will no longer receive sick leave compensation; and all striking employees will have their insurance benefits discontinued effective the first day of the strike.

Madison Offering Private Bus Service To N.Y.C. If N.J. Transit Workers Strike

Knowing its residents are part of a heavy commuter base that travels to and from New York City daily, Madison Borough is trying to help locals travel in the event of a crippling New Jersey Transit strike. The borough will be offering $25 tickets sold on a first-come, first-served basis daily that will pick up and drop-off at the Madison Train Station.

Uber Preparing Drivers, Riders For Possible N.J. Transit Strike

Taxi service Uber, which allows drivers to use their own vehicles to transport passengers, is calling on its New Jersey customers to be prepared - and take advantage of - an impending New Jersey Transit strike. The strike would take effect if New Jersey Transit and its more than 4,000 union employees can't come to terms on a new contract before 12:01 a.m. Sunday, March 13. By Monday, New Jersey Transit projected, more than 100,000 New Jersey to New York commuters would be impacted and left without rail service.
