NREL theorizes defects could improve solar cells.
2016-01-14 14:31:10| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Deep-level defects frequently hamper efficiency of solar cells, but NREL research suggests that defects with properly engineered energy levels can improve carrier collection out of cell, or improve surface passivation of absorber layer. Researchers introduced defects within thin tunneling SiO2 layer that forms part of "passivated contact" for carrier collection, and within Al2O3 surface passivation layer next to Si cell wafer. In both cases, specific defects were identified to be beneficial.

CDC: Strong signs Brazil birth defects are tied to mosquito
2016-01-14 02:21:59| Biotech - Topix.net
In this Dec. 23, 2015, file photo, 10-year-old Elison nurses his 2-month-old brother Jose Wesley, who was born with microcephaly, at their house in Poco Fundo, Pernambuco state, Brazil. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, that it has found the strongest evidence so far of a possible link between a mosquito-borne virus and a surge of birth defects in Brazil.
