(Telecompaper) The EU institutions have reached a political agreement on the reform of copyright law. After the compromise agreed by the European Parliament, Council and Commission, the updated directive only needs formal approval from the Parliament and Council to become law. The EU states will then have two years to implement the changes in national law.

Swiss Parliament passes Telecom Act reform without wholesale fibre access regulation

EU internet industry pushes for lighter touch in copyright directive reform

(Telecompaper) Internet service providers in Europe have submitted comments to the EU institutions calling for a compromise on proposed changes to the EU copyright directive. They want news publishers to be able to opt out of the proposed compensation regime for online aggregators, as well as changes to limit the liability of online content-sharing platforms. The comments come ahead of the next trilogue between the European Commission, Parliament and Council on the legislation on 27 November.
