St. Paul will lose 77 jobs in electronics facility closure

Arrow Electronics Inc. is closing its St. Paul facility and laying off the location's 77 employes, the Colorado-based electronics supplier said in a mass layoff notice to Minnesota officials. The asset disposition facility at 2299 Territorial Road will close March 27, the same date that layoffs will start.

Trucking Adds 2,400 Jobs in January; Unemployment Rises to 5.7%

The trucking industry added 2,400 jobs in January as the unemployment rate increased slightly to 5.7%, the Labor Department reported Feb. 6. The transportation and warehousing sector, which includes trucking, lost 8,600 positions as the courier and messenger subsector lost 14,100 jobs. The 257,000 overall increase in employment followed a 329,000 rise the prior month that was more than previously estimated, Bloomberg News reported.

The United States added 257,000 jobs last month and the number of jobs created in December was revised upwards.

Germany's Siemens to ax 7,800 jobs globally to cut costs

Industrial machinery maker Siemens AG says it will cut 7,800 administrative jobs worldwide as part of an effort to streamline the sprawling company and its many businesses. Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser said the cuts were part of an ongoing restructuring whose aim was to "get the company back on a sustainable growth path and close the profitability gap to our competitors" Siemens said the cuts would save 1 billion euros this year alone that the company could put into growth initiatives such as research and development.
