Daimler AG is set to announce a major expansion of its North Charleston van plant that will bring at least 1,200 jobs to the region, The Post and Courier has learned. An announcement is being scheduled for Friday morning at Daimler's plant in Palmetto Commerce Park.
60 workers to lose jobs in upcoming closure

When Amega West closes its Tyler facility in the next couple of months, 60 employees will lose their jobs, officials confirmed. William J. Rudolph, Jr., director of corporate communications for Amega West's parent company, Carpenter Technology Corporation, confirmed that the local facility will close permanently sometime between April 21 and May 5. "Approximately 60 employees are impacted by the closure, which was prompted by current business conditions and the need to centralize our operations to improve efficiencies," Rudolph said last week in an email.

The Canada Safeway warehouse/distribution centre on King Edward Street will be closing within one year as part of the consolidation of local Safeway-Sobeys operations. A Sobeys West spokeswoman confirmed Thursday Safeway's longtime warehouse/distribution centre at 1000 King Edward St. will be closing within the next year, throwing 172 employees out of work.

Johnson & Johnson Could Bring 700 Jobs to Tampa

State and Hillsborough County officials are working on a taxpayer-funded incentive package aimed at luring the pharmaceutical and consumer goods giant Johnson & Johnson to add upwards of 700 jobs here that would pay an average annual wage of at least $75,000. The project would establish a North American "shared services headquarters operation" in the county, and could represent an investment by Johnson & Johnson of $23.5 million, county records say.
