CSX Corp. on Tuesday said its third-quarter profit grew 12 percent to $509 million as it hauled more freight amid an improving economy. The Jacksonville, Florida-based company reported profit per share of 51 cents, beating the 47-cent average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research .

Car sales in India declined 1.03 per cent in September, after posting four months of consecutive growth, as customers postponed purchases during the month on account of festival season beginning in October. According to the data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers , domestic car sales in September this year stood at 1,54,882 units as compared to 1,56,494 units in the same month of 2013.
Nissan says Sept China auto sales down 20 pct y/y

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co Ltd said on Friday that, together with its Chinese joint venture partner, it sold about 93,700 automobiles in China in September, down 20 percent from a year earlier. That follows a 0.7 percent year-on-year decrease in August and a 12.3 percent drop in July.

Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp, said its contracts with the Pentagon for the next two batches of engines for the Lockheed Martin Corp F-35 fighter jet will result in combined cost savings of 7 percent to 8 percent. Bennett Croswell, president of Pratt's military engines division, told reporters the company had already more than halved the cost of its F-35 engine, and the savings from the next two contracts - for the seventh and eighth batches of engines - would come on top of that.

Toyota Motor Corp and its two Chinese joint ventures sold about 78,500 vehicles in China in August, up 8.9 percent from a year earlier, the Japanese automaker said on Monday.
