Could climate change be the culprit in spread of Zika virus?
2016-03-09 12:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
LA Times: The Zika virus sweeping across South America may be only one of several long-dormant infections that will resurface in coming years because of climate change and deforestation, says a Johns Hopkins University neurologist now leading research efforts in Colombia, one of the countries hardest hit by the disease. According to Dr. Carlos Pardo Villamizar, warmer climates may have triggered the emergence and subsequent spread of the Zika virus by making more of the world habitable for the Aedes aegypti...

Harvard Study: U.S. Likely Culprit Global Spike Methane Emissions
2016-02-18 16:40:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Common Dreams: New research has linked the U.S. to the massive rise in global methane emissions. Bobby Magill reported on the Harvard University study on Climate Central Tuesday. Using satellite data, the researchers found that methane emissions in the country rose more than 30 percent over the 20022014 period and that increase "could account for 3060 percent of the global growth of atmospheric methane seen in the past decade," the study`s abstract states. Though the study does not attribute the increase...

Climate change the chief culprit for stormy winter weather
2016-02-02 02:02:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Irish Times: If the weather this winter seems stormier than usual, that is because it is. It is every bit as bad as the storm-ridden winter of 2013-14, according to climate data from Met Éireann. And climate change can now be blamed for the stormy conditions we have had to endure, at least during 2013-14. New research out of Oxford shows the extreme rainfalls that flooded the UK during that winter were associated with global warming. Storm Henry, which cleared our shores this morning, counts as the eighth...

Climate Change Could Be Culprit in Rise of Legionnaires' Cases
2015-07-31 05:31:14| Biotech - Topix.net
This 2009 colorized 8000X electron micrograph image provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a large grouping of Gram-negative Legionella pneumophila bacteria. The number of reported cases of Legionnaires' disease is on the rise in the United States and researchers say the increase could be partly a result of climate change.
