State health officials will retest nearly 300 "high-risk" people close to those who have tested positive in the southeastern Indiana HIV outbreak. The Indiana State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that 10 specialists will be sent to the area to administer the tests through Nov. 22. HIV can take as long as three months to be diagnosed.

REUTERS: Gilead Sciences Inc said on Thursday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its HIV drug cocktail, Genvoya, to treat infection in adults and patients 12 years of age and older. Genvoya, a combination tablet approved as a complete regimen, aims to treat patients who have never been treated with HIV therapy.

Preliminary testing of two long-acting injectable drugs indicates it might be possible to keep HIV at bay indefinitely with injections every month or two. Johnson & Johnson and partner ViiV Healthcare, which specializes in HIV drugs, announced results from the first 32 weeks of the planned 96-week study, which combines one drug from each company.
