Al-Mardi Calls for Adopting Clear Policies on Sugar Industry in Sudan
2014-03-20 06:51:14| Sugar Industry News
Khartoum -- Local sugar distribution operation has been affected by the lack of clear policies on sugar industry in Sudan, Mohamed Al-Mardi, the Manager of Kenana Sugar Company, has said. Speaking to the press yesterday, Al-Mardi said that entry of huge amounts of imported sugar into the country has flooded the market with this commodity. He called for clear policies and suitable supportive mechanisms for distributing sugar. He added that the government has contributed to stabilizing production at Kenana over the past 30 years and that efforts are underway to remove obstacles facing the performance of the company; besides necessary measures by the company to carry out projects in the White Nile to produce half a million tons of sugar.

Sugar has not passed its point of no return
2014-03-20 06:51:14| Sugar Industry News
Even after GuySuCo\'s worst showing in over two decades, I cannot subscribe to the opinion that sugar has passed its point of no return as argued quite skilfully by Professor Clive Thomas. The sugar industry reached an important bottom in 2013 but that bottom could be a false bottom proving Thomas correct. But I am intimately aware of the talent in the sugar belt and I know with some serious managerial and policy changes in 2014, we could make the right turn for the better. I was heartened that GuySuCo was able to produce some 18,000 tonnes of sugar over the last two weeks and that is the kind of performance that can easily roll out production levels of 225,000 tonnes in 2014, which are critically needed to stabilize the cash flow situation in the industry.
