Disney+ already at 50 million subscribers

Disney+ now has 50 million paid subscribers. In the past two weeks the service rolled out in eight Western European countries. Last week it also launched in India, jointly with Hotstar. This provided eight million of the 50 million subscribers.

Disney+ rolls out in Europe

Disney+ has launched in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland. The service will launch in France on April 7th. Audiences can stream Disney+ on nearly all major mobile and connected TV devices.

Disney+ postpones India launch on coronavirus outbreak

(Telecompaper) Disney+ will not launch in India on 29 March, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, Financial Express reports, citing a Hotstar statement. At the beginning of February, Disney+ announced plans to go live in India through pay-TV provider Hotstar on 29 March. Disney+ was expected to launch in India in conjunction with the start of the IPL 2020, but since that has been delayed due to coronavirus, Hotstar has decided to postpone the service's launch as well. The Disney+ India launch has now been delayed 'indefinitely'.

Facebook, Amazon, Disney to help conserve bandwidth in Europe

(Telecompaper) Facebook has said it will also reduce video streaming quality on its platform and on Instagram in Europe, in the wake of similar action by Netflix and YouTube, Reuters reported. The move comes after European Commissioner Thierry Breton asked platforms to switch to SD from HD feeds, in order to conserve bandwidth for vital sectors and people working at home during the coronavirus outbreak. Amazon and Disney have also said they will downgrade their video quality.
