A third of Dutch (33%) active on 4G networks - Telecompaper

(Telecompaper) The number of 4G smartphones among Dutch consumers has more than doubled in the past year, according to a study by Telecompaper and its Consumer Panel. 4G smartphone ownership jumped to 51 percent in September from 27 percent in August the year before. The use of 4G network has meanwhile tripled, to 33 percent in September from 12 percent in August 2014. In the last two years, 4G smartphone ownership has tripled to 51 percent from 14 percent. In September 2013, 62 percent of Dutch consumers did not own a 4G smartphone; the figure has dropped to a third. In April of this year, 4G smartphones made up 60 percent of all smartphones on the Dutch market (GSMHelpdesk).

XOR Trojan Threatens Linux Networks

Researchers for the Security Intelligence Response Team at Akamai on Tuesday issued a high-risk threat advisory for XOR DDoS proliferation. The XOR DDoS Trojan is used to hijack Linux servers to build a botnet for distributed denial-of-service attacks with SYN and DNS floods, researchers tracking the malware said. The massive Linux-based botnet can take down websites under a flood of DDoS traffic.
