Several Westmoreland County citizens met in a public forum hosted by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to discuss the controversial issue of a biosolids facility being constructed on Richmond Road. According to DEQ, Biosolids is a term that refers to solid, semisolid, or liquid materials removed from municipal sewage and treated to be suitable for recycling as fertilizer.

China: Subaru to postpone plans of local joint-venture production

Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Japanese automaker Subaru has decided to put its plans for localized Chinese production of cars through a joint-venture with partner Chery Automobile on hold for the time being. Fuji was the only global player from Japan that lacked Chinese government approval to start model manufacturing through a joint venture and planned to band together with Chery to build Subaru cars.

Local prosecutor gets railroad safety grant

Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Ken Casady recently received a $4,500 grant from Union Pacific Railroad. Casady's office applied for the grant through U.P. Cares safety program and the money will be used "in educating the public of dangers of trespassing on railroad property," Casady said.
