As a result of these reported actions, investors bid up the shares on Friday of the North American containerboard producers, with International Paper up 5.2%, WRK up 6.2%, Packaging Corp. of America up 7.2%, and KapStone up 11.4%, compared to the flat S&P 500.

Pratt, which has now built three of the last 4 paper mills constructed in the U.S., said the new 100 percent recycled facility would supply the company's rapidly-expanding Midwest operations. In just two years, company chairman Anthony Pratt said Pratt had invested more than $400 million in the U.S. If you market to the pulp and paper industry, look to RISI to reach more customers through more channels than anyone else.

Caraustar to Hike Prices for Paperboard and Containerboard Grades

Aug. 12, 2015 - Caraustar Industries today announced a price increase of $45 per ton on all uncoated recycled paperboard and containerboard grades and $50 per ton on all coated recycled paperboard grades. The increase on uncoated recycled paperboard and containerboard grades will be effective starting with shipments on September 8, 2015 and the increase on coated recycled paperboard grades will be effective starting with shipments on August 24, 2015.

International Paper has decided to restart the idle containerboard machine at its Valliant, OK, mill sometime later next year, CEO John Faraci told a UBS investment conference Thursday. He said the $90 million price tag for preparing the machine to run again is "very cost effective" for 360,000 tons/yr of additional capacity at a mill "which has the lowest fixed cost per ton of any facility at IP."

Packaging Corporation of America announced recently that it will not convert the idled No. 2 paper machine (D2) at its DeRidder, Louisiana mill to produce containerboard. Instead, PCA will convert the No. 3 newsprint machine (D3) at DeRidder to containerboard, producing lightweight linerboard and medium, and exit the newsprint business
