Eurasia Review: Our climate and environmental scientists are some of the best in the world. We wouldnt stop supporting out elite Olympic athletes just as theyre winning gold medals. -- Andrew Holmes, President, Australian Academy of Science, Feb 9, 2016 It is hardly a popular thing to be a gloomy Cassandra, and various climate change scientists have been wondering just how far to go with being dark about the earths future. Each time data is released, the negativity increases. The politicians, depending on...

Gag order climate change cant stop water from rising to our doorstep

Press Herald: Dear Florida Gov. Rick Scott: So it turns out the experts were mistaken. It turns out the impact of climate change on Florida and much of the coastal United States is not going to be anywhere near as bad as had been predicted. Apparently, its going to be much worse. Thats the sobering finding of a study published this week in the journal Nature Climate Change. Previous scenarios, grim as they were, failed to take into account projected population growth. Factor that in, say the researchers,...
Scientists help Vietnams rice farmers adapt to climate change, amid major drought

IRIN: Scientists are developing more resistant varieties of rice to help farmers in Vietnam adapt to climate change, amid the countrys worst drought in 90 years. The drought, as well as the related flow of saltwater upriver, has destroyed 159,000 hectares of rice paddies and left almost one million people lacking drinking water, according to a new UN report. Another half million hectares are expected to be damaged by mid-year. In line with its work in other Asian countries, the Philippines-based...

Climate Change Study: Rising Seas Might Displace 13 Million People
2016-03-15 10:07:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Inquisitr: A new study on climate change gave a dire prediction for the costs of relocation, especially in Florida, where sea rise threatens a large part of the state. Some people are already relocating; more, maybe millions, will likely have to join them. The most recent study is novel because it combines estimates for population growth with projected sea rise levels from climate science. In the worst case scenario, which the researchers put at six feet of sea rise, roughly 13 million people will be at...
