Fortunoff jewelry stores trying for rebirth in a new setting

A granddaughter of the founders of the Fortunoff retail chain wants to restore some luster to the family name by bringing back the Fortunoff jewelry stores. Esther Fortunoff is starting small, with the grand opening this week of a 1,900-square-foot Fortunoff Fine Jewelry store in Westbury, N.Y. She is hoping, however, this will lead to bigger things, including a future store in North Jersey, where the Fortunoff family first began its expansion outside of New York, with stores in Paramus and Wayne.
