Samsung wins ITC patent ruling against Apple
2013-06-05 08:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that Apple infringed on a Samsung patent involving the ability of devices to transmit multiple services through 3G technology, resulting in a ban on the importation or sale in the US of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G by AT&T, Reuters reports. President Obama has 60 days to decide whether to veto the ruling. The ruling overturned a September 2012 decision by ITC judge James Gildea, who had found that Apple did not infringe on patents at issue. The ITC found that Apple did not violate three other Samsung patents. Apple said it would appeal the decision.

Apple infringed a Samsung Electronics patent, the U.S. International Trade Commission said in a final judgment released today that bans import into the U.S. of certain AT&T iPhone and iPad models: the iPhone 3G (which is no longer sold), 3G S, and 4, and the cellular versions of the first-gen iPad (also no longer sold) and iPad 2. Apple has said it would appeal the decision in federal court. Later versions of the iPhone (the 4S and 5) and iPad (third- and fourth-gen, and Mini) are unaffected by the ruling.

Obama administration aims to kill patent trolling with 5-step plan
2013-06-04 18:22:42| Extremetech
The digital entertainment and tech industries have long since been victims of patent trolling. Whole companies managed to stay afloat not through providing a desirable service or product, but through highly aggressive patent trolling. In the digital age, it's a bit easier to patent troll, given that there are now a whole new realm of products and services to attack. Patent trolling doesn't help anyone other than the trolls, and that's why the Obama administration has a new plan to put it to rest.
