Consumers Energy builds new 24-mile pipeline

Consumers Energy has built a 24-mile natural gas pipeline in southwestern Michigan that's part of a $120 million project. The pipeline runs through St. Joseph and Branch counties and completes a 90-mile pipeline corridor, which the utility says will increase reliability and safety for its 1.7 million natural gas customers.

Work on coal-fired units is intended primarily to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions from the plant in Bay County's Hampton Township. Consumers Energy says the multi-year project is expected to be complete by April.

Power restoration could be late Monday for some Consumers Energy customers in Kalamazoo County

Nearly 5,000 Consumers Energy customers in Kalamazoo County remained without electricity as of 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and power could remain out for some until late Monday, the utility said. Statewide, approximately 17,240 customers remained without power as of 9:30, including 4,786 in Kalamazoo County, most in the state.
