Xiaomi FY revenues leap 135% to CNY 74.3 bln

(Telecompaper) Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Technology said pre-tax revenues jumped 135 percent year-on-year to CNY 74.3 billion (USD 12 billion) in 2014, CEO Lei Jun said on his official microblog account, as reported by Reuters. Xiaomi sold a total of just over 61 million phones last year, up 227 percent from the year before. Lei added that growth in China's smartphone market was expected to ease this year and that the company wanted to focus on innovating new products and pushing into more overseas markets. The blog post did not give a related profit figure. Part of the business made CNY 347.5 million net profit last year on revenue of CNY 26.6 billion and an operating margin of 1.8 percent. Lei, who is both chairman and chief executive, said he holds 77.8 percent of the company he co-founded in 2010, with unnamed shareholders splitting the rest, according to a recent filing.

Sherrill Manufacturing Inc., the silverware maker that took over the Oneida Ltd. factory after its closing nine years ago, has moved all of its manufacturing back from Mexico and more than doubled its workforce in this tiny Oneida County city. Company CEO Gregory Owens said the company employs 42 people at the former Oneida silverware factory - 38 full-time employees and four permanent part-time workers.

Huawei H1 sales up 19% to CNY 136 billion

(Telecompaper) Huawei announced revenues of CNY 135.8 million for the first half of 2014, up 19 percent from a year earlier. The company recorded an operating margin of 18.3 percent. Huawei said the results were in line with its expectations and helped by growing investments in LTE worldwide. Carrier network revenue was also helped by increased sales of software and services. In addition, the company benefited from its push to expand in the enterprise market, and Huawei reported "quality and sustainable growth" in its handset business. Further details of the results were not disclosed.
