NEWS Silgan cuts jobs in Indiana as it relocates some operations

Described as a "partial reduction and relocation of operations" in a letter to state officials, the maker of plastics containers said the move was scheduled to begin June 29 and be completed by Sept. 8. The total of 69 job losses include seven salaried positions and 62 hourly positions, Silgan reported to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development in the letter required under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN.

This past week Tamara Keith of National Public Radio came Elkhart County to report on the area's slow and steady economic recovery from the Great Recession of 2009 that shuttered many RV manufacturing plants and left thousands without a job.
