DreamWorks Animation Sales Talks with Hasbro End

Hasbro does not plan to acquire DreamWorks Animation, in a deal that would have been worth at least $2.3 billion, Variety can confirm. The toymaker ended conversations with the toon studio on Friday, causing DWA's stock to plummet more than $2 a share after the close of the trading day on Wall Street.

Toymaker Hasbro Inc is in talks to buy Hollywood studio DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc, the New York Times reported, citing people briefed on the matter. Under the proposed deal, Hasbro would pay a mix of cash and stock, though an exact price has not been determined yet, the newspaper reported.

DreamWorks Animation in talks to sell to Japan's SoftBank

DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind the "Shrek," "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar" movies, is in talks to sell the company to Japanese telecommunications firm SoftBank Corp., according to a person familiar with the talks. Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of the Glendale studio, has been in discussions to sell the company he launched twenty years ago to SoftBank, which owns Sprint Corp. and recently dropped a bid to acquire T-Mobile.
