Global SVOD subscriptions to reach 777 million

Worldwide paying SVOD subscriptions will increase by 409 million between 2017 and 2023 to total 777 million, according to Digital TV Research. Eleven countries will have more than 10 million subscribers and China and the US together will account for more than half of the total.

Elisa to launch 'Nordic TV' SVoD in Chinese market with CBM

(Telecompaper) Finnish operator Elisa said it has agreed with China Broadcasting and Television Media (CBM), a subsidiary of China Broadcasting Network, to provide the Nordic TV video service for a Chinese audience. The agreement with CBM opens access to 245 million cable TV households, and follows a pilot in 2017. They plan to start phasing in the service at the end of 2018.

Consumer research from Leichtman Research Group (LRG) finds that 69% of all U.S. households have an SVOD service from Netflix, Amazon Prime, and/or Hulu. Among those that have an SVOD service, 63% have more than one of these services.

US SVOD subscriptions to reach 208 million

The number of SVOD subscriptions in the US will climb from 132 million in 2017 to 208 million in 2023. Digital TV Research estimates that 73.5% of TV households will subscribe to at least one SVOD platform by 2023.
