Associated Press: Washington state's major industrial sources released about 6 million more metric tons of greenhouse gases in 2013, a 30 percent jump from the previous year, according to the latest data from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. ICS: Oil Pollution Compensation Regime under Threat

2014-10-14 17:02:15| Oil & Gas - Topix.net

The running of the global regime for compensation from oil pollution from ships may be under threat, due to a decision by governments to wind up the 1971 International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund , says the International Chamber of Shipping , the global trade association for shipowners. At next week's IOPCF meeting in London, ICS, in conjunction with BIMCO and Intertanko, will argue that it is premature to wind up the 1971 Fund when there are still outstanding claims not covered by the current 1992 Fund.

Air Pollution Compounds Effects of Climate Change

2014-10-13 18:10:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Truthdig: Two separate studies have confirmed the extent of human influence on climate change-and, for once, carbon dioxide is not the usual suspect. One team has just found that air pollution dimmed the skies of northern Europe, reflected sunlight back into space, reduced evaporation, and increased river flow. The second group reports that similar aerosol pollution had a quite different effect on the Asian monsoons: in the second half of the 20th century, the darkening skies reduced temperatures and...
