Elon Musk, CEO of both SpaceX and Tesla Motors, soon may be venturing into new territory: the Internet satellite sector. Musk reportedly is working with ex-Googler Greg Wyler, founder of WorldVu Satellites, on a $1 billion project to develop a fleet of 700 relatively small and inexpensive models that can be used to provide Internet access around the globe.

Guardian: An uninhabited Pacific island has come top of the first comprehensive ocean health index, which compares all the world's coastal countries and scores them for how well the seas around them benefit both man and nature. Stanford researchers suggest that the way to move beyond the legal, physiological, and physical constraints on the energy that can beam to an implant may be to move away from radio waves, and switch to ultrasound instead. Not content just to wax philosophical about these issues, they have now demonstrated proof of principle for ultrasound power transmission into the brain -- or at least into a three-centimeter-thick slab of chicken meat.
