The UK and Germany have become the latest European countries to demand that Google amend the privacy policy revamp it launched in April 2012, which consolidated user data across all its services. The Information Commissioner's Office in the UK announced that it has sent a letter to Google notifying it that its changes raise "serious questions" about compliance with the UK Data Protection Act.

(Telecompaper) EU commissioner for justice Vivane Reding said her US counterparts assured her that data collection of Europeans' telecom traffic is not conducted in "bulk" by the NSA's Prism programme, but only when there is strong suspicion of group or individual involvement in cybercrime, terrorism or nuclear proliferation, the Guardian reports. After meeting her counterparts in Dublin, Reding insisted that citizens' rights were "non-negotiable" despite the importance of national security considerations.The Wall Street Journal writes that Holder spoke of EU and US computer experts going work together to understand what was done with European data collected under the Prism programme. German chancellor Merkel intends to discuss the matter with president Obama during her upcoming visit to the US.
