Pesticide manufacturers reached an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency to stop the sale of chlorpyrifos, a powerful toxicant used as an insecticide in homes, lawns and gardens more than 14 years ago, due to associated health risks, according to a written report by Beyond Pesticides [PDF]. Chlorpyrifos are banned for use in homes, except in containers with treated baits.

U.S. EPA announced settlement with E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company (DuPont) for alleged violations of Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). DuPont will pay $1,853,000 to resolve allegations regarding its failure to submit reports to EPA about potential adverse effects of Imprelis herbicide and selling said product with labeling that did not ensure its safe use. Last Nov., Kauai County, which consists of three Hawaiian islands, passed Kauai County Ordinance 960, which required large-scale agricultural operations to disclose the presence of pesticides and genetically modified crops, as reported by Hawaii's KHON 2 News .
