The Sobeys grocery business expects to eliminate 1,300 jobs over the next year or two as it moves to open new distribution centres in Ontario and Alberta and continues to integrate Safeway Canada's operations. The head of Sobeys parent company told analysts in a quarterly conference call Thursday that the jobs cuts will be implemented starting in late 2016 and will be primarily back-office functions.

Google to power European data centres solely by green energy

(Telecompaper) Google's four data centres in Europe are soon to be run on 100 percent renewable energy, heise.de reports. The company currently operates three European data centres, in Finland, Belgium and in Ireland, and a fourth one is being built in Eemshaven in the Netherlands at the moment, which is supposed to be based entirely on renewable resources from the start, according to Google's infrastructure expert, Urs Hoelzle.

The Delhi government on Sunday directed all automobile dealers across the national capital to set up pollution checking centres at their workshops, in a bid to keep a check on the vehicular emission in the city. According to reports, the Aam Aadmi Party government in the city has ordered all car and motorbike dealers to set up pollution measuring facilities on their premises so that they can issue Pollution Under Control certificates.

New system for simple length setting of tools on CNC machining centres

Global engineering technologies company Renishaw has launched the Primo LTS (length tool setter) at CIMT, Beijing, China. The Primo LTS is a single-axis tool setter which allows users to set tool length, check for breakage, and compensate for thermal growth on a CNC machining centre.
