(Telecompaper) Omantel has agreed to buy a 9.84 percent stake in the Middle East mobile operator Zain for USD 846.1 million. Omantel will buy 425.7 million treasury shares from Zain for KWD 0.60 per share, a significant premium to the KWD 0.45 closing price the day before the announcement.

Veon sells Euroset stake to Megafon, buys half of shops

(Telecompaper) Veon is exiting its retail joint venture with Megafon in Russia. The operator agreed to sell its 50 percent stake in the retailer Euroset to Megafon, while at the same time acquiring half of all Euroset stores. Veon said the more mature Russian market means a greater focus on customer service and retention, rather than Sim card sales, requiring the operator to develop its own shop network.
