Italian regulator reduces FTTx infrastructure prices
2013-03-01 15:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Italy's Communications Authority (AgCom) approved the prices for wholesale access to Telecom Italia's passive infrastructure (ducts, manholes, fibre optic) and active infrastructure (bitstream NGA, Vula). This infrastructure is used by alternative operators to provide services at up to 30 Mbps on the FTTC network and up to 100 Mbps on the FTTH network. For the FTTC services, Telecom Italia proposed a price of EUR 31.01 per month, but AgCom has reduced the fee for data and voice over IP to EUR 21.51 per month. This is also lower than the price of EUR 24.09 per month published for public consultation last October. For FTTH services, against the proposal of Telecom Italia of EUR 38 per month for 100/10 Mbps bandwidth, the authority has set the fee at EUR 24.90 per month, again lower than the EUR 28 proposed for public consultation. The price apply retroactively for 2012 and will for the reference for 2013 prices, to be approved by June. A new market analysis will set prices for the period 2014-2016.
