An atmospheric river of precipitation with roots in the South China Sea will bring deep, subtropical moisture to northwest Oregon and southwest Washington this weekend. How much moisture? Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Portland say rainfall will be enhanced on the west facing slopes of the Oregon coast range and Cascades, with as much as 1.5 to 2 inches of rain every 6 hours for up to 18 hours Saturday into Sunday.

The Bonnybrook bridge over the swollen Bow River gave way underneath a Canadian Pacific Railway train on June 27, 2013, while the city was trying to recover from high water that had washed over many neighbourhoods just days before.
