CHIPMAKER ARM has announced a new subsystem of its Cortex-M processor line specifically designed for the Internet of Things. ARM IoT for ARM Cortex-M uses a specifically reserved set of IP addresses that allows manufacturers to create system-on-a-chip devices including sensors and other IoT mainstays.

ARM hopes to extend battery life of IOT devices with new chip design

ARM is trying to resolve the thorny problem of battery life in Internet of Things devices with a new chip design that will significantly reduce the power consumed by processors, sensors and wireless chips. The company has overhauled the way it designs low-power Cortex-M chips that go into IoT devices such as health monitors, smart home devices and sensors.

Google previews Android M release, Brillo IoT platform

(Telecompaper) Google announced at its developers conference Google I/O a preview of the latest version of its Android mobile operating system. Android M comes with the new service Android Pay to make payments from the smartphone, as well as further integration of Google Now, the personal assistance service, and improvements to search and battery life. In addition, Andrord M comes with a new Photos app from Google to help store, edit and share photos. Google also confirmed at I/O its new Internet of Things development platform, called Brillo. The platform derived from Android helps developers and manufacturers build connected devices. As part of Brillo, the company introduced a communications protocol (Weave) developed in partnership with Nest Labs, a set of developer APIs, a core set of schemas and a certification program to ensure device and app interoperability.
