That line from the family TV series Thunderbirds had to be one of the most exciting refrains from my childhood. Produced between 1964 and 1966 by British TV genius Gerry Anderson and his wife, Sylvia Anderson, the sci-fi adventure show featured distinctive characters played by marionettes who interacted with the grooviest scale-model props - planes, trains, and automobiles - in a hybrid film technique the Andersons called supermarionation .

Thunderbirds film at City Screen

THUNDERBIRDS are go at City Screen, York, for a weekend dedicated dedicated to the work of creators Gerry and Sylvia Anderson as the series' 50th anniversary approaches. The new documentary Filmed In Supermarionation will be shown at 1.15pm on Saturday, telling the story of how the Andersons pioneered what was to become their filmmaking trademark, the puppetry technique of Supermarionation.
