Fujitsu designs leaner supercomputer with fewer switches
2014-07-16 13:41:03| InfoWorld: Top News
Fujitsu has developed an approach to cluster supercomputers that reduces the number of network switches by 40 percent without sacrificing performance. The approach centers on using a new communications algorithm that efficiently controls data transmissions as well as deploying a multilayer full-mesh topology in the arrangement of the network.

China has the fastest supercomputer, but the U.S. still rules
2014-07-02 15:29:53| InfoWorld: Top News
More powerful supercomputers enable higher resolutions for modeling and simulations, more complex science, and the possibility of breakthrough discoveries. It's one reason why the biannual Top 500 supercomputer list is carefully watched. Computing power matters in this universe.
NREL Supercomputer Tackles Grid Challenges
2014-06-26 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Energy Department's Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF), located on NREL's campus and imagined by NREL leaders who foresaw possibilities for high performance computing (HPC), handles large and complex datasets that exceed traditional database processes. As part of energy-efficient HPC data center, ESIF's Peregrine supercomputer, dedicated by Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz in September 2013, can perform more than one quadrillion calculations per second. Supercomputer stagnation: New list of the worlds fastest computers casts shadow over exascale by 2020
2014-06-24 21:06:22| Extremetech
Yesterday, Top 500 released the updated list of the world's fastest supercomputers, and it revealed a rather worrying trend: Supercomputer performance is slowing down, rather than speeding up. When most of the world's computing superpowers have announced their intentions to create exascale (1000 petaflops) supercomputers by 2020, this would appear to be a bit of a problem.
