VW recalls Jettas, Beetles

German automaker Volkswagen AG said it is recalling more than 1.1 million cars in North America and China to correct a potential problem with rear suspension parts. The company said Friday the recall covers about 442,265 cars in the United States and 126,000 in Canada, including 2011-2013 VW Jettas and 2012-2013 VW Beetles.

City workers to learn how to eradicate fire ants, rhinoceros beetles

About two dozen city ground maintenance workers are expected to attend Tuesday's initial training session on how to spot and eradicate invasive fire ants and coconut rhinoceros beetles. The two non-native pests were first detected in Hawaii in December 2013 and have been the focus of a joint state and federal eradication effort.
