ASTM is working to revise and reinstate standard D7081-05, Standard Specification for Non-Floating Biodegradable Plastics in the Marine Environment. Said revision, which will include name change, will cover products (including packaging and coatings) made from plastics that are designed to be biodegradable in natural seawater. This specification was withdrawn in April 2014 in accordance with ASTM Regulations Governing ASTM Technical Committees (section 10.6.3).

Specific issues addressed include maximum incline angles, side-to-side surface containment, and side height requirements. Specifically, standard establishes safety performance requirements, test methods, and labeling requirements to minimize potential hazards.
