BT re-enters mobile market with Sim-only data plans

(Telecompaper) BT has launched three Sim-only plans offering 4G, access to over 5 million BT Wi-Fi hotspots, free BT Sport via the BT Sport app and family-friendly features like spending caps on all tariffs. BT Broadband customers benefit from up to 50 percent discounts compared to customers not on broadband, with the entry-level pricing point at GBP 5 a month. Subscribers must sign a 1-year contract and those who want to buy a new phone can do so from BT Shop with prices starting at GBP 99. Again there are discounts for broadband customers on up to five mobile lines per home. The service described by BT as the UK's "best value 4G mobile data deal" offers 500 MB of 4G data, unlimited texts and 200 minutes for GBP 5 a month for broadband customers, GBP 10 if not. For GBP 12 a month broadband customers can have 2 GB, unlimited texts and 500 minutes for GBP 12 or GBP 17 a month, and 20 GB of 4G data and unlimited texts and minutes for GBP 20 or GBP 25, respectively. The last time BT was present in consumer mobile was before the demerger of O2 in 2002. It is now acquiring MNO EE to cement its return to mobile.

Nearly half of Dutch mobile connections are SIM-only

(Telecompaper) The share of SIM-only customers in the Netherlands is on the rise. Almost half (47%) of the mobile connections in the first quarter of 2014 were SIM-only, compared to 41 percent in the first quarter of 2013. Two thirds of those are postpaid connections. These results are based on the Postpaid Mobile Insight report by Telecompaper. The distribution of prepaid and postpaid connections in the Netherlands has remained stable in Q1 2014, with three quarters of all mobile connections being postpaid.
