WHITTIER >> The momentum of 2014's economic development surge is expected to carry over into 2015, according to City Manager Jeff Collier and Conal McNamara, director of economic development. Leading a long list of projects that will continue or start in 2015 is the redevelopment of the former Fred C. Nelles Youth Facility, which will continue through the regulatory process into February, with infrastructure construction work starting possibly by mid-summer, but definitely sometime in 2015, Collier and McNamara said.

Kenneth Adams , president and CEO of Empire State Development, says the competition for state funding for economic development projects was more intense than the first three rounds. The Capital Region received about $20 million less in 2014 than it did last year, but is funding a similar number of projects.

A barren stretch of The Bronx's Harlem River waterfront needs a walkway, Citi Bike and a bowling alley to thrive, according to a local economic development group. SoBRO , a nonprofit group dedicated to improving quality of life in the South Bronx, recently released a study that envisions bringing about 4,000 new units of housing and 3.3 million square feet of commercial and community development to a portion of the borough's waterfront stretching from the Third Avenue Bridge to East 149th Street.
