(Telecompaper) Spotify reported strong results for the fourth quarter, at the high end of its outlook thanks to a strong holiday sales campaign. As flagged in its previous quarterly report, the company expects some pressure on margins in 2019, as it launches a new strategy to grow revenue through offering podcasts and other audio content besides music. The group confirmed the acquisitions of Gimlet Media and Anchor to drive the podcast business and said more takeovers are planned this year.

Sony raises FY net profit forecast after strong growth in Q3

(Telecompaper) Sony has upped its net profit for the forecast for the full year after strong growth in the third quarter. The company's net profit jumped to JPY 429.0 billion in the third quarter from 295.1 billion the year before, despite revenues going lower to JPY 2.401 trillion from 2.672 trillion and restructuring charges advancing to JYP 6.9 billion from 3.1 billion year-on-year. The operating profit lifted to JPY 377.0 billion from 350.8 billion.
Amazon sees continued slower growth in Q1 after Q4 sales rise of 20%

(Telecompaper) Looking forward towards the first quarter, Amazon said it expects even slower growth, with revenues seen up 10-18 percent to USD 56-60 billion. The operating profit should reach USD 2.3-3.3 billion, from 1.9 billion the year before.
