Just a few months after its successful debut in the Market Arcade complex, Queen City Pop Up, this spring, will move a few doors to the north and take up shop - no pun intended - in the historic Pierce Building. The Plaza Group has negotiated a deal with the Buffalo Urban Development Corp. that will see it donate some vacant first-floor space in the Pierce Building for retailers looking to gain a footprint in downtown Buffalo.

It was still a relief to get a stamp of approval from her grandmother, Dolores Dalum, who assured that it was OK to move on, move forward and start the next chapter, after three generations.

Last week I talked with Happy State Bank President Bud Holmes and Chairman David Seim and they gave me an update on the construction of the bank's new four-story building at 98th Street and Quaker Avenue. Construction is moving forward on the 45,679-square-foot building that will become Happy State Bank's Lubbock headquarters and house the Crenshaw law firm.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has bought U.S. mobile wallet startup LoopPay, signaling its intention to launch a smartphone payments service to compete with a recent offering from rival Apple Inc. Mobile payments have been slow to catch on in the United States and elsewhere, despite strong backing. Apple, Google, and eBay Inc's PayPal have all launched services to allow users to pay in stores via smartphones.
