Airtel sells tower assets in Zambia, Rwanda to IHS

(Telecompaper) Airtel has announced an agreement under which IHS will acquire over 1,100 telecoms towers in Zambia and Rwanda under a ten-year renewable contract. The deal will enable IHS to expand its African tower footprint to over 21,000 across five countries. The agreements will allow Airtel to focus on its core business and customers, enable it to reduce debt, and will significantly lower its capital expenditure on passive infrastructure.

IHS Inc. today announced the pricing of its offering of $750 million in aggregate principal amount of senior notes due 2022 in a private placement transaction pursuant to Rule 144A and Regulation S under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended. The offering is expected to close on October 28, 2014, subject to customary closing conditions.
